Guardian and minor consent rule

1. Age identification

The clinic requests the date of birth at every public and manual admission. The date of birth is used to determine whether the patient is a minor under the applicable Costa Rican rule and to display the corresponding guardian consent warning.

2. Guardian verification

When the patient is a minor, the clinic may request evidence of the identity and authority of the parent, guardian, or other legal representative.

Staff record whether guardian consent was verified, the verification date, the staff member who performed the verification, and any free-text note that is necessary.

3. Appointment request and pending verification

Guardian verification is not currently a technical requirement for submitting an appointment request. The request may be accepted while verification remains pending, but the patient record must display the pending warning for staff follow-up.

4. Confidentiality and access

A parent's, guardian's, or representative's involvement does not automatically authorize unrestricted access to all information if applicable law recognizes confidentiality or consent rights belonging to the minor.

5. Information the clinic retains

The clinic does not create a structured identity profile for the guardian. It retains only the verification result, the date, the verifier, and the necessary note.

6. Applicable rule

The clinic will apply the consent, confidentiality, access, and communications rule required by applicable Costa Rican law and by the corresponding professional service.
